I hope all of you are transitioning into the holiday season smoothly. There is no denying that this has been a difficult year financially for almost all of us but we have lots to celebrate as well. Among them is the development of the legislation for our enhanced incentive program for the Texas moving image industry. Working with TXMPA Legislative Committee, chaired by Drew Mayer-Oakes, TXMPA Lobbyist, HillCo, IATSE lobbyist, Gaylord Armstrong, the Texas Film Commission, and the State’s Comptroller’s Office we are very close to finalizing the language we want for the bill and passing it along to our champions in the legislature for their feedback so we can officially begin the process of getting it passed.
We have identified a host of areas that can be modified to make Texas more competitive in the production incentive arena. Among them is language that would provide flexibility in the percentage of return offered on Film and scripted Television productions and lowers the threshold of in state spend needed to qualify for the incentive. We are also looking to add areas of production that are not part of the existing program like non-scripted television, corporate, and educational productions. |
