ABOUT THE WEST TEXAS REGION:
The West Region of the TXMPA spans a large area of the western panhandle of Texas, and includes the following counties: Brewster, Culberson, El Paso, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Loving, Pecos, Presidio, Reeves, Terrell, Ward, and Winkle.
West Texas has a warm, arid climate with very hot summers (with little or no humidity) and mild, dry winters.
One of the larger cities in West Texas is El Paso, the sixth-largest city in Texas and the 22nd-largest city in the United States. El Paso shares a border with Mexico and the State of New Mexico, making it unique in filming possibilities.
Distinctive to El Paso are the Franklin Mountains, the Chihuahuan Desert of the southwest, and the Rio Grande. El Paso is also within an hour’s drive of forest landscapes, the White Sands National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns, lakes, and other awesome national landmarks. El Paso also hosts one of the largest military bases in the United States, Fort Bliss. All this makes for a perfect area for filmmakers!
Previous films done in the El Paso area include: The Burning Plain, Stephen Fry In America, The Last Conquistador, No Country for Old Men, Glory Road, RX, Man on Fire, The Day After Tomorrow, Saving Jessica Lynch, Kill Bill, Original Latin Kings of Comedy, Traffic, Committed, Lolita, Last Man Standing, Courage Under Fire, Wild at Heart, Extreme Prejudice, Lost in America, Fandango, Paris, Texas, The Border, Manos of Fate, The Hottest State, and many more!
