SOUTHEAST TEXAS

SOUTHEAST REGIONAL UPDATE AS OF MAY 17, 2010

by Susan Fowler
TXMPA Vice President and SE Regional Rep
(713) 408-6208

Elections:

The TXMPA Board Elections are coming up. You must be a current member to vote in the elections, so please check on your status and renew your membership today. www.txmpa.org

There are thirteen seats expiring this year, including the SE Regional Representative seat, the position which I currently hold. Per the bi-laws we must nominate and elect the Regional Representative at a Regional Caucus to be held no more than thirty days prior to the TXMPA Annual Meeting and At Large Elections to be held in Dallas and online in June.

Regional Representative Election:

Our Regional Caucus Meeting will be held this Friday, May 21, 2010 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The election will take place at 7pm. Texcam, Inc., one of our corporate sponsors at the Industry Partner level, has generously donated the space for the meeting and volunteered to provide refreshments. Please come out to the meeting and mixer and check out Texcam's beautiful new facility if you haven't seen it yet.

We are accepting nominations for the SE Regional Rep up until the time of the election at 7pm on Friday, May 21, 2010. If you choose to run, please bring several copies of a brief explanation of why you would be a great candidate for the board and a brief bio. If you are elected you would be required to attend regular conference calls with the rest of the board every other Thursday from 9:30am to 11:30am (as currently scheduled). You would also be required to hold regular events throughout the SE Region, which reaches from Beaumont to College Station and from Corpus Christi to Nacogdoches. You will hold positions on several committees and are expected to raise money for the organization - fundraising is one of our biggest priorities heading into a legislative session in 2011. And finally, you would be required to attend the annual meetings in 2010, 2011 and 2012, plus the Lobby Day in Austin in the spring of 2011. This is a working position and takes a tremendous amount of time, energy and money. Please - only serious nominees - you must roll up your sleeves and really work for an organization that is critical to the success of the entire industry in our state.

I have chosen to run for the position for another term and I look forward to any and all nominations and a fun and spirited election.

At Large Representative Elections:

This year the At Large Reps will be elected in an online election in June. Anyone from any region is allowed to run for the At Large Seats. If you are interested in running please submit your photo, brief bio and brief explanation of why you should be elected by no later than June 2nd to Nikki Young, Chair of the Election Committee. More details on the At Large Online Election will follow shortly in a TXMPA Newsletter update. In the past we have sent three nominations determined in the regional caucus from each region to the annual meeting and online elections. This year we are not limiting the number of nominees and we are not excluding anyone from the process. If you'd like to run for an At Large Seat, please do so. The work required is the same as listed above though - so be prepared to work and hold fundraisers. TXMPA bi-laws limit how many people can be elected to represent each region in all positions - so, even though anyone can run, and the number of nominees from any region is unlimited, the number of people who will actually get elected from each region is capped. Here's the breakdown for our region:

All regions can have a Regional Rep, an Alternate Regional Rep and up to three At Large Seats. We will elect the new Regional Rep as described above. There are also Permanent Seats that are elected in individual group elections, such as Producer's, Labor - Crew, Labor - Talent, TAFTP,

Michelle Mower will continue her term as our Alternate Regional Rep until June of 2011 - thanks for all your hard work Michelle.

Larry Cashion will continue his term until 2012 as one of our At Large Seats. Thanks Larry for all your efforts in the southernmost portion of the SE Region, great things are happening in Corpus Christi directly due to your hard work.

Sharon Adams has completed her term as one of the SE Region At Large Representatives. Thank you Sharon for serving on the board and for your work with the City of Houston and the legislative efforts of the TXMPA. This position is available and we need great nominees to run and re-win the seat for the SE Region!

We have one more available At Large Seat. Please run, the more representation we have the better we are served in the upcoming 2011 Legislative Session. Maybe someone from Beaumont, Galveston, The Woodlands or the Nacogdoches area would like to run! Contact me, we need great candidates!

Please continue to support the TXMPA with your time, passion, membership and donations. www.txmpa.org Donate/Join
