Why LBP Supports TXMPA
|
The moving image industry is growing everyday in Texas, and the brightest star in this expansion is the gaming industry. It may surprise you to know gaming accounts for nearly half of the moving image industry’s budget in Texas. These financial figures are not just fun and games anymore, but driving our industry towards greater success in Texas.
The state’s feature film production varies from year to year, commercial and corporate production have a steady presence, however the new kid on the block has quickly come to the forefront of the industry in Texas. Not even 10 years ago, spending for video game production was too small to be tracked as its own category. By 2006, when the Film Commission began to track it, some $80.7 million was spent for production. By 2009, that total jumped to $234.4 million, more than 46 percent of the Texas total media industry spending for production that year of $505.8 million.

These jobs go to the growing number of industry professionals who live and work in Texas, in the mediums of film, television, commercial advertising and video games,” said Don Stokes, immediate past-president for TXMPA. “This program had done exactly what it was set up to do – to enhance Texas’ economy at a time when other states are facing major economic crises.”
